RETAIL THERAPY in and around Albemarle Plantation

Shopping is a bit of a relaxing hobby for me, which is sometimes troubling for the bank balance.” -Rebecca Hall

If shopping is your favorite hobby, we can’t help you with your bank balance but we can suggest some amazing and unique spots to get your retail therapy on…and maybe even find you some deals that will save you money on actual therapy!

With locations in both Hertford and Elizabeth City,  Small Town Trendz is one of our favorite shops to visit when we feel the need to treat ourselves!  It always lives up to its promise of “keeping the South trendy”!  You’ll find everything from fun Southern t-shirts and home décor to outdoor items.  Not to mention the monthly Sip and Paint events you can attend and make your own!

It is no secret that Elizabeth City is proud of its artistic and cultural vibe so it makes sense that it is full of fun unique shops!  Home to an assortment of retailers, including a shopping mall, a bustling downtown and three shopping centers, Elizabeth City is the perfect destination for retail therapy seekers.

Elizabeth City’s downtown offers stores such as Firefly Home Boutiques and Gifts, a unique home decor shop that features items such as hand blown glassware, hand made jewelry from local artists, pottery and other eclectic gifts.   Shay Leslie Boutique is a clothing, accessory and shoe shop for women with a strong focus on personal attention.  You will feel at home every time you walk in and are greeted like family.

Located within walking distance of the waterfront, Griffin Street Square is home to an array of shops, such as the SoHo Organic Market. This locally owned store offers whole foods and artisan breads, cheeses and meats.

Edenton is a popular destination for shoppers with its small town charm and abundance of locally owned shops and boutiques.  One you won’t want to miss is Feather’s Boutique!  What started as a resale shop selling out of the owners’ closets has become a booming success that now sells new and pre-loved clothing out of a beautiful store front.

Another unique local shop we love is Finders KeepHERS.  It is a fun little boutique that started with the owner’s hobby of finding furniture in need of restoration and putting her creative flare to work!  The store now includes all kinds of incredible items from local artists as well.  Whether you’re looking for a unique gift, one of a kind jewelry or home décor, Finders KeepHERS will not disappoint!

Now that you’ve worked up an appetite with all that shopping, might we suggest a trip to Sugared Fig Bake Shoppe to round out the day?!  If homemade bread, cakes and cookies like Grandma used to make is what you’re craving, you are in for a treat!  Now that is therapeutic!
