“Gifts of time and love are surely the basic ingredients of a truly merry Christmas.”. ― Peg Bracken
While your love languages may be quality time and affection…we’ve decided ours is definitely Christmas carols and twinkling lights! Seriously though, nothing makes you feel the stirring of that holiday spirit more than when your town starts breaking out the holiday decorations and the calendar starts filling with activities of the season! Lucky for you (and us), there is no shortage of holiday happenings near Albemarle Plantation this year!
Edenton is a sight to behold all year long but the Christmas Candlelight Tour is the most anticipated event of the year for a reason! There is nothing like watching Edenton shine and locals and visitors alike love to come out to see each year’s chosen neighborhood go all out! They open their homes and their hearts to anyone feeling the holiday spirit! Participants spend months preparing for the event and happily share their personal family traditions and decorations in historic downtown Edenton. The ultimate in small town hospitality and community!
But Edenton isn’t the only town capable of putting on a down-home Christmas celebration! There is so much going on in nearby Elizabeth City that our calendars are going to be full! If you didn’t get enough twinkly light (and can you ever get enough twinkly lights?!), you won’t want to miss the Holiday Celebration and Downtown Illumination! Carols will be sung, hay rides will be ridden, and there will be no shortage of sweet holiday treats. And of course, the night wouldn’t be complete without a visit from Santa!
If you feel the need to infuse some culture into your festivities, there will be a special holiday themed First Friday Art Walk in December that you won’t want to miss! Santa Claus will be perusing the artwork and demonstrations too; so be sure to let him know which pieces you’d like to see under your tree on Christmas morning! And don’t worry, there are twinkly light to be had here too! Just a short stroll down to the waterfront, you can catch this year’s Lighted Boat Parade! Locals string their boats up with lights, wear costumes and even play instruments to spread holiday cheer! It’s a sight to behold! Don’t let the Christmas spirit die out before you make it to the Annual Christmas Parade the next day either! Bundle up, sit back and let the magic begin with the sights and sounds of this year’s “Christmas in the River City” parade! Cheers to spending the holidays doing the things you love with the people you love! Happy Holidays!
